I thought that pretty picture of a waterfall protected me?

So much for that. New York Times reporter and blogger Brad Stone has a story on the Bits blog about a preliminary report out of UC Berkeley that ranks corporate America on identity theft, incidents per month. The charts and the companies on it? All the big household names, banks and retailers. How many have you done business with over the last month? Feel safe, now?

Apple and PR

PR Newser links to a few stories about Apple and how they do PR. The short of it? Don’t be an idiot.

Beware of Greenwashing

A term you will hear more and more as more and more companies “go green.” Consumers are already becoming more and more aware of real green vs. fake green, as more companies overstate the environmental attributes of their products and services. Beware of greenwashing. Visit the “Greenwashing Index” where you can check out the integrity and claims by green brands.

Greening the auto service industry

Here’s a link to a podcast on GreenBiz.com that features another client. The focus is on a new program that aims to eliminate all the waste from their franchises, as well as help AAMCO customers make their cars more environmentally friendly.

UGC

User generated contests are a great way to promote a brand, or let the public promote your brand. Client of mine is on its second round of this contest. I posted here on the WSJ Independent Street small business blog about how it can level the playing field, and actually allow a smaller company to stand out above the crowd.

More about how a small, tiny company can out viral market the big boys.

i think what I am really trying to get at…large and small companies alike are salavating over the potentials of YouTube...but you have to wonder why others..with all their dollars, creativity and skill..apparent marketing geniuses and how smaller companies can outperform on a tiny budget, spare change for the behomeths…just leverage the platform. Definitely a great option when you don’t have a huge budget, and 15 people running it on the backend. UG contests can be a hilarious showcase of untapped talent, and great way to promote your brand.

Talk about kicking people when they are down...

…and even kicking those who aren’t down…or late that for that matter. Check out this story from USA Today.

Credit card companies are covering their losses on bad loans and late payments by raising their interest rates…even raising the rates of good customers.

My Giants...the Update

It’s old news now, but I am still on cloud 9. My New York Giants are Super Bowl Champions. I remember the last time they won, but this one will be remembered by every football fan and non-fan alike. This game was a classic and an incredible upset. Congrats G-Men and fans of the G-Men!

My Giants

Really looking forward to the “Big Game” this Sunday.  It’s been seven years since my G-Men last played in the Super Bowl.  Will be enjoying the game at a local watering hole with some friends.

Reacting to breaking news

Big news in the Internet search space today is Microsoft’s offer to purchase Yahoo!  I have a client in the private equity space that can speak to this and break it down.  Working to line them up to speak with the WSJ and USA Today.
